HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Secondary education, the second stage of the education process, includes liceo and vocational education and training systems. The 5-year liceo system consists of two two-year semesters and one year of university-preparatory education. Vocational training lasts 3-5 years.

a) Classical High School and Science High School (Liceo classico and Liceo scientifico): The general purpose of these schools is to prepare students for higher education. The duration is 5 years and students between the ages of 14 and 19 study. In classical high schools, weekly class hours are 27–29 hours. In science high schools, weekly course hours are between 25 and 30 hours.

b) Art Schools (Liceo artistico and Istituto d'Arte): The general aim of these schools is to enable students to specialize in arts. The duration is 5 years, and students between the ages of 14 and 19 receive education. Weekly course hours are 39–44 hours.

c) Vocational and Technical High Schools: The main purpose of technical education is to provide specific theoretical and practical training to students between the ages of 14 and 19 in line with the needs of the labor market in different sectors. Technical High School (Istituti Tecnici) provides education in the fields of agriculture, commerce, tourism, industry and maritime. The education is organized as 2+3 years, but there is no passing exam between these two periods. Lessons are spread over 5 or 6 days a week. The duration is 5 years, weekly course hours vary depending on the chosen branch and year. A significant part of the curriculum is devoted to practical work in the field in which the student will specialize. - Vocational High School (Istituti Professionali) provides education in four main branches: agriculture, industry, handicrafts and special services/sectors (furnishings, pastry, musical instrument making, etc.). Under each major branch, there are sub-branches that have an important place in the business world. The duration is 5 years. Students receive the title of craftsman at the end of the first three years of these five years, and the title of technician after completing the five years.

Our students who study in Italian high schools in Turkey or who have documented at least 120 hours of Italian education can apply to the Italian Ministry of Education High School Student Exchange Program. Our students, who are placed with Italian volunteer families by the relevant institutions, are assigned to the school closest to their homes.
