LGS central exam results have been announced. The majority of students who score high in the exam will choose high schools that implement international curriculum. Just as there are private schools that implement international curriculum, there are also public high schools. The demand for these high schools is also increasing. // Sevim Büyüktaş Demir

The well-established public high schools in Turkey implement international curriculum and diploma programs in order to provide world-class education. The number of these high schools is also increasing. With the announcement of the central exam results within the scope of the High School Transition System (LGS), all eyes turned to these public high schools. Volkan Cerrahoğlu, General Manager of WCEP (International High School Student Exchange Program) Turkey that cooperates with public high schools to implement the AP (Advanced Placement Program) international curriculum and diploma program, said that with the announcement of the results, the students with high scores would lean to public high schools that apply the international curriculum.

6 public high schools are popular

Stating that the international education standard became the main criterion in school preferences, Volkan Cerrahoğlu said, “Equality of opportunity in international education is the right of every student who has achieved a certain level of success in the exam. There is a high demand by our high-scoring students for the well-established public high schools such as Izmir Atatürk High School, Istanbul Kabataş Boys' High School, Istanbul Validebağ Science High School, Adana Anatolian High School, Antalya High School, and Ankara Mehmet Emin Resulzade Anatolian High School, where we have integrated the AP program. This shows that the difference of private schools in education standards has disappeared and we have made significant progress in achieving our goal of equality of opportunity.”

What is AP?

The Advanced Placement (AP) Program is a comprehensive program that is implemented in the USA and spreads all over the world and that requires hard working. It is applied in more than 60 countries in addition to the USA. The AP Program provides students with the opportunity to take university-level courses while in high school and be exempt from these courses at the university. The program provides an advantage in the admission process to foreign universities.
