As September approaches, when the new academic year will begin in schools, preparations for students who will go abroad from Turkey to study have already gained momentum. Finally, International High School Student Exchange Program WCEP announced that it organize an Intercultural Adaptation Camp (Orientation Camp) every year for students accepted to the programs.
The camp, attended by students who will study in Canada and the USA in the 2021-2022 academic year, students who have previously studied in the same countries, and instructors from the world of education, was held on July 31 - August 2 at International Abant Palace.
ALL PRACTICAL INFORMATION NEEDED IN DAILY LIFE WAS SHARED
Making a statement on the subject, WCEP Turkey General Manager Volkan Cerrahoğlu said, "Our aim is to offer our students a guide that will make both their social and academic lives easier before this academic year they will spend abroad. Accordingly, we created a forum where students can meet and support each other morally, allowing them to share with students who have previously participated in our student exchange programs. We enabled them to ask questions and find a collective solution to their concerns, if any. The main topics we cover during the camp are culture and intercultural learning, communication and group dynamics, conflict resolution, program rules, rights and responsibilities, course selection and academic life, technical and logistical issues, social life and daily life, problem-solving mechanisms, flight, visa and financial details, and system for admission to foreign universities.”
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING WAS TAKEN AS A BASIS
Giving the details of the training given to the students during the camp, Cerrahoğlu said, “As WCEP, we continue to hold the hands of young people who will build our future, and we do not stop walking alongside them for a moment to help them grow up as individuals who are on firm ground. We believe that we will overcome all obstacles with the collaborations we have developed around the world. Just like in study abroad programs, we paid great attention to the training provided in the orientation camp. So much so that the content of the training provided within the scope of the camp program was developed within the framework of intercultural learning and was prepared in accordance with David Kolb's experiential learning model. Accordingly, we aimed to create the most efficient learning environment for the participants by using methods such as large group studies, role-playing games, and simulations during the training.”
